2023 Atomic Backland 117 Skis w/ Marker Griffon 13 ID Bindings

Remember when big powder skis were super heavy? Sure, they floated well, but that didn’t really mean much if you couldn’t actually stear the skis in deep snow. The Atomic Backland 117 blends the float and surfyness of a big powder ski without the weight and is a great option for either the resort or as a dedicated deep snow touring ski. Under the hood, the Backland 117 features a lightweight wood core comprised of a blend of Caruba and Poplar. This keeps the ski light without sacrificing stability or a responsive flex. Atomic also incorporates their Carbon Backbone into the core of the Backland 117 which provides vibration damping, stiffness and a lot of liveliness in the ski’s flex. Being a directional ski, this is also shown in its rocker profile where there is a fair amount of rocker in the tip, camber under the boot and a bit of camber in the tail. This provides a great balance of stability and maneuverability allowing the ski to be versatile in its ability to handle varying snow conditions. Ski it in the deepest snow imaginable and it will float like a dream, but if you need to ski it through some choppy stuff or through some firmer snow, it will handle those conditions as well. Atomic features a unique design attribute in the Backland 117 called HRZN (Horizon) Tech which is a latitudinal rocker in the tip which increases the surface area in that portion of the ski to add float. It also mitigates tip deflection allowing the ski to stay on its intended line and not get bounced around by quick changes in the consistency of the snow. Burly enough to handle the hard charging skiing of Atomic Freeride athletes but approachable enough for experienced skiers who want a lighter powder ski, the Backland provides you the best of both worlds.
