The 2025 Stöckli Montero AX is a refined all-mountain frontside ski that blends versatility with exceptional carving performance. Smooth, energetic, and incredibly precise, the AX thrives on groomers where it excels at mid-radius turns but also offers enough agility and rocker to venture into mixed terrain when the mood strikes. Paired with Strive 13 bindings, this setup delivers the premium feel and confidence that has made Stöckli a benchmark in ski craftsmanship.
Why we like it:
The Montero AX has a rare balance of energy and composure. It grips with authority, propels you through the turn with power, and still feels silky smooth underfoot. Its character is lively and responsive, yet polished, making it one of the most enjoyable skis on the frontside.
Who it's for:
This ski is ideal for advanced to expert skiers who spend the majority of their time carving on trail, but still want the ability to handle light off-trail exploration. It rewards technical skiers who value edge grip, precision, and a refined ride.
Highlights:
The Montero AX uses a poplar and beech wood core for strength, energy, and stability while keeping weight manageable for maneuverability. Two layers of Titanal sandwich the core, adding torsional stiffness, vibration damping, and that unmistakable Stöckli smoothness. For 2025, refinements include cutouts in the Titanal layers at the tip and tail to lower swing weight and improve turn initiation, giving the ski a slightly more supple feel without losing stability. Solid Metal Edge Light technology ensures durability while keeping weight in check, while Adaptive Contact Length and Full Contact Edge maximize grip by extending effective edge length when the ski is tipped over. An all-mountain rocker profile adds just enough rise in the tip and tail to keep the ski versatile and agile beyond the groomers.
Things to consider:
Compared to its sibling, the Montero AR, the AX has a narrower waist and a shorter turn radius, giving it a quicker, more turn-focused personality. It prefers mid to high-speed carving in shorter arcs, while the AR favors longer, faster GS-style turns. Additionally, the AX’s rearward mount point rewards skiers with strong technique who are comfortable driving the tips.
Fit & sizing considerations:
The Montero AX skis true to size. Choose a longer length if you prioritize stability and edge hold at speed, or a shorter length for quicker edge-to-edge performance and maneuverability.
