Volkl finds the sweet spot between performance, versatility, and light weight with the Flair 79. Starting with a wood core surrounded by PU, Volkl utilizes their 3D Ridge tech, which provides a huge reduction in weight, making the Flair 79 super quick edge to edge without compromising the performance of the ski. A fiberglass frame that extends along the outside edges of the ski to provide energy while also mitigating vibrations in the tip and tail, and a layer of steel throughout the ski works to enhance smoothness through the turn. Finally, a combo of camber and rocker in the tips and tails give the Flair 79 the versatility it needs to be as successful off-piste as it is on.

Things to consider:

In spite of its versatility, the Flair 79 is still fairly frontside oriented, so those spending the majority of their time off trail will find there are more appropriate options. There are also better options for frontside carvers who are searching for the top-end of performance on piste.
