The Stockli Edge TR is a lightweight touring ski that Stockli completely redesigned around an extremely light paulownia wood core and Swiss-made construction. A powder rocker up front, a rockered freeride tail and a waist that grows with each length keep it easy to steer and composed on the way down, while the low weight makes long climbs feel shorter. It's a versatile, approachable touring partner for skiers who want efficiency uphill and a smooth, predictable ride back to the car.
Why we like it:
Vario Side Cut is a clever idea for a touring ski: the waist gets wider as the length goes up, so a taller, heavier skier automatically gets a bit more platform without jumping to a different model. We also like the Touring Tail, a milled notch that locks skin clips in place and is a real help when you're transitioning with cold hands.
Who it's for:
Advancing intermediate to advanced skiers getting into touring are a natural fit here, as well as experienced tourers who value low weight and an easygoing descent over hard-charging power. It suits long days, hut trips and mixed spring conditions where every gram counts on the way up.
Highlights:
Lighter than the Edge TR that came before it, the redesigned version weighs 1418 g at 172 cm thanks to Stockli's paulownia Touring Core and a Thin Glass Laminate that is 25 percent lighter than conventional fiberglass while keeping the same flex. Vario Side Cut matches the waist to the length, running from 85 mm at 158 cm to 88 mm at 178 cm, and the 172 measures 122, 87 and 108 mm with a 20 m radius. Powder Rocker and Freeride Tip Technology, a light, stiff insert in the shovel, help the tip plane up and stay quiet in deep snow, and the Freeride Tail softens and lightens the tail for easy releases. Polywall sidewalls add impact resistance and damping, Solid Metal Edge Light keeps the edges durable without the weight, and Titanal Technology Evo puts a lotus-inspired, water-repellent powder coat on the titanal surface to keep snow from building up on top.
Things to consider:
The Edge TR is built for efficiency and ease, so it doesn't have the damping or high-speed stability of a heavier freeride ski when the snow gets firm and chopped up. Its slimmer touring waist also won't float as high in deep, heavy snow, so skiers who chase big powder days may want something wider.
Fit & sizing considerations:
The Edge TR sizes true to length, and Vario Side Cut means the waist grows a little with each size. Drop a length to save weight and make kick turns easier, or go up a size for more stability and float on the descent.
