Ski Size

Young racers moving into FIS-level giant slalom are the target for the Atomic Redster G9 FIS Revoshock in its junior lengths. It carries the same ash core, full-width titanal and steel damping plates as Atomic's senior race skis, scaled into lengths and turn shapes a lighter athlete can actually bend. The result is a demanding but manageable GS race ski that teaches a developing competitor to carry speed and finish turns cleanly in the gates.

Why we like it:

It's rare to see a junior race ski get the full Revoshock damping and Carbon Boost treatment, and that matters for a lighter athlete fighting a rutted course. The tighter turn shape in these lengths also makes it far easier to bring the ski around the gate than a full senior GS ski.

Who it's for:

This ski is for junior racers in structured race programs who compete in FIS or upper-level youth giant slalom. It suits strong, committed athletes who have mastered a carved turn and are ready for a stiffer, longer race ski under the guidance of their coach.

Highlights:

Two lengths keep this ski matched to a growing racer: the 173 cm runs a 20 m radius, while the 180 cm stretches to 24 m with dimensions of 104, 65 and 85.5 mm. Underneath is an ash Ultra Power Woodcore topped with a sheet of Ultra TI Powered titanal across the whole width, with Ultrawall full-length sidewalls sending pressure straight to the edge. Revoshock steel plates set in an elastomer compound absorb vibration from rough course conditions, and the Carbon Boost insert under the heel helps the ski accelerate out of each turn. Full Active Camber, a World Cup base finish and the Icon Interface complete a build that's every bit a race ski.

Things to consider:

Even in its junior lengths, this is a stiff, full-construction race ski that needs speed and solid technique to perform, so it isn't suited to casual skiing or kids still learning to carve. Younger racers are better served by the Redster J junior race skis until they're strong enough to load this one. It's designed around Atomic's Icon race bindings, so plan the binding purchase accordingly.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Choose between the two lengths based on the racer's weight, strength and race category rather than height alone. The longer length adds stability and a longer turn shape for faster courses, while the shorter one is easier to turn for lighter athletes, and a coach's input is the best guide.
