Young racers moving up through structured programs get true race-boot precision scaled to their size in the Atomic Redster STR 2 LC. A low cuff suits shorter legs, a narrow race last keeps a small foot locked in, and a heat-moldable shell lets a bootfitter customize the fit as the athlete grows into it. It gives developing competitors direct, accurate control of their race skis in a flex soft enough for a lighter athlete to bend.
Why we like it:
Memory Fit is the standout, letting a bootfitter heat and reshape the shell and cuff to a young racer's foot, which is a big deal in a narrow race boot that would otherwise need extensive punching. We also like the low cuff, cut 15 mm lower than standard, so shorter legs can actually flex the boot instead of getting levered by it.
Who it's for:
This boot is for youth racers in competitive programs who train gates regularly and need a precise, race-specific fit. It suits a narrow, low-volume foot, and the low cuff is designed for lighter racers and those with shorter lower legs.
Highlights:
The Low Cuff, trimmed 15 mm below standard across all sizes, is the design move that makes this a youth race boot rather than a shrunken adult one. The shell starts at a true Mondopoint 21 and uses thinner STR walls on a 91 mm race last, with Memory Fit allowing the shell and cuff to be heat-molded. Forward lean starts at 16° and adjusts to 18°, ramp angle is 4°, and the Race Chassis adds a thick sole with 1° canting. Dual Control lets a coach or bootfitter tune forward lean and flex. Inside, the World Cup Gold Low liner uses a fixed Redster tongue, cuff lacing, a microfiber outer and a 3D stretch toe box. Four Magnesium Elite buckles, a 35 mm Velcro strap and the ISO 5355 Redster Solid Sole round it out.
Things to consider:
This is a race boot built for competitive youth athletes, not a recreational junior boot, and its narrow last and firm fit will feel uncomfortable to a casual skier. Plan on a fitting session with a certified bootfitter to heat-mold the shell and fine-tune the fit before training begins. Atomic also offers the STR 1 LC in the same low-cuff shell, and racers who outgrow the low cuff can move into the full-height STR boots.
Fit & sizing considerations:
A 91 mm race last makes this a low-volume boot, with width tapering further in the smaller shells. Young racers' feet change quickly, so work with a certified bootfitter who can use Memory Fit to adjust the shell as the athlete grows. A size adjuster insert and an 18° forward lean shim are included.
