Brake Size

A race-bred binding for ambitious advanced skiers who want the Freeflex Pro system without needing the higher DIN values of the 16 and 20 race models. It brings serious race tech to a more accessible release range, making it a smart choice for strong intermediates progressing into expert territory or smaller-frame racers.

Why we like it:

The combination of the NX heel with the race-spec Stream toe gives this binding a unique character. It's got the aerodynamic toe and Adaptive Suspension Technology of the bigger Freeflex models, but the NX heel is more forgiving and accessible than a pure RACE PRO setup, which makes for a more livable binding day in and day out.

Who it's for:

Strong advanced intermediates, lighter-frame advanced skiers, and recreational racers who want race technology with a more forgiving DIN range.

Highlights:

The Freeflex ST 14 hits a really useful niche in HEAD's race lineup. It uses the same Stream Toe found on the higher-DIN race bindings, with that 15-percent drag reduction and aerodynamic profile, but pairs it with an NX heel instead of the RACE PRO. That swap is what makes this a more flexible binding; you get the benefits of independently spring-loaded toe pincers and the metal insert plate for direct power transmission, but the heel is a touch more forgiving in real-world use. The Adaptive Suspension Technology is the same across the line, and the sliding plate with two mounting positions is here too, so you can fine-tune the pressure point. Stand height at 17mm and a per-piece weight in the mid-1200s makes this a feels-light, drives-hard package.

Things to consider:

The 14 max DIN is plenty for most advanced skiers, but heavier expert skiers or aggressive masters racers will likely want to step up to the 16 or 20 versions. It's also alpine-DIN-only, with no GripWalk compatibility.

Fit & sizing considerations:

One brake width covers the typical race and frontside ski range. True to size for the intended platform.
