Sage Kotsenburg's pro-model boot sits in a category of its own. The 2027 K2 Orton is a stiff-flexing, freeride-leaning boot built around a one-piece rubber lower and a clean, minimal-seam upper. Sage wanted something that could push hard through big mountain terrain without giving up the feel and feedback he relies on, and the build reflects that. Riders looking for a higher-end boot with serious response and durability, plus the flexibility to hit anything from natural features to backcountry lines, will find a lot to like here. It feels purposeful from the first lap.

Why we like it:

The one-piece rubber lower is the headliner, ditching extra seams and stitch lines for a cleaner shell that stays consistent over the life of the boot. The H5 Coiler Zonal BOA system also impresses, with two dials splitting the lacing job between the cuff and the lower shell so the fit actually behaves like two boots stacked together.

Who it's for:

The Orton is built for advanced and expert riders who push the pace in big terrain and need a boot that won't fold when the snow gets variable. Freeride-minded riders, splitboard adjacent days, sidecountry hunting, and aggressive resort lines all fit the profile. If you lean heavy on response and want a stiffer flex with a proper pro-model pedigree, this is the one.

Highlights:

What sets the Orton apart is that one-piece rubber lower, a snowboarding-first design that trades complicated stitched panels for a seamless rubber shell that resists distortion and ages well. Above it sits a Flex Zone Upper that lets the boot bend predictably without blowing out at the seams. The H5 Coiler Zonal BOA Fit System runs the show on the lacing side, with two dials handling the upper and lower zones separately, plus the H5 dial's impact-eject feature so a hard tomahawk doesn't end your day. TX3 BOA lace replaces the older steel cable with a softer, more even-tensioning line that wraps the foot more comfortably. Inside, the Intuition Pro Foam 3D Liner is fully heat-moldable, with internal and external J-Bars and cored ankle pockets to lock the heel and ankle in tight.

Things to consider:

The Orton is a stiff boot at a 8 out of 10 on K2's flex scale, so newer riders or anyone who prefers a softer, more forgiving feel underfoot will likely want to look at the Maysis or Haven instead. The pro-model price point also reflects what's going into the build, so this isn't the value pick of the line.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Standard sizing applies. The Orton runs in half sizes from 7 to 13, so most riders can stick with what they usually wear. If you're between sizes, dropping to the smaller half size is the common move for a more performance-oriented fit, since the Intuition liner will pack out a touch over the first few days.
