The 2027 Kastle Sublime 88 with Salomon Strive 14 GW Bindings is a genuine one-quiver all-mountain ski. Poplar and beech under two layers of titanal, wrapped in a progressively rockered shape, give it range across conditions: grip on hard snow, float when things soften, and a forgiving nature that never asks for a perfect stance. We paired the Sublime 88 with the Strive 14 because of this binding’s well known reputation for safety, reliability, and ease of use. Featuring an LDN toe piece that optimizes contact and response, these bindings integrate seamlessly with boots and skis, allowing for a natural flex and balanced stance, making them the perfect choice to pair with this ski.
Why we like it:
Two sheets of Titanal in a ski this approachable is unusual, because most all-mountain skis at this friendliness level drop the metal in favor of lighter builds. Kastle refused that trade, so the 88 absorbs chop and holds an edge even when you are skiing relaxed.
Who it's for:
Advancing intermediate through advanced skiers who want one ski for the whole hill and refuse to swap edge hold for versatility. It also makes a strong step-up ski for anyone moving into bigger, more varied terrain.
Highlights:
Sublime construction carries over intact, so what separates the 88 from its narrower sibling is footprint. An 88 mm waist and a broad shovel hand this ski more surface area, which translates to real float in soft snow without costing it manners on trail. All-Mountain Rocker in the tip works alongside a slightly more pronounced tail rocker, giving the 88 a longer-arc personality than the Sublime 83. Hollowtech 2.0 keeps the shovel light, while the Milled Tip and Fast Grip Shovel tuning make engagement predictable at the top of the turn and the Hook Free Tail keeps the exit clean. Quietly capable is the phrase; it does a little of everything well. At the core is the three-part heel, which delivers the secure boot retention the Strive line is known for while keeping weight reasonable. Salomon's elastic travel keeps the binding planted through chatter and cut-up snow, so it does not get knocked offline easily. The LDN toe spreads lateral input across an extra-wide pedal for crisp edge-to-edge power transfer, and a sliding toe pedal lets the ski bend underfoot for a more natural flex. The whole assembly rides on a low-profile chassis that drops the stance and centers the skier over the ski. It accepts both standard alpine and GripWalk boot soles, and the binding is TUV certified.
Things to consider:
The very compromises that make this width so versatile stop it short of best in class anywhere. It cannot match the narrower MX84 for lock-in on groomers or the Sublime 93 for float in deep snow. Call it a true generalist rather than a specialist.
Fit & sizing considerations:
Ride the length you always ride, and soft-snow fans wanting a bit more ski underfoot can go longer because the rockered tail keeps that extra in check.
