Freeride skiers who want one ski for groomers, glades, and powder days will find a lot to like in the Liberty Scope 99. This twin-tipped all-mountain freeride ski pairs a poplar and bamboo wood core with carbon stringers and a rocker, camber, rocker profile that adapts as the snow changes. The result is a light, lively platform that slashes, pivots, and floats with ease, while still holding a confident line when you tip it onto a soft groomer.
Why we like it:
Bamboo is back in the Scope 99, and you can feel it; the full-length bamboo stringers inside the Recoil Core Carbon add a smoothness and quiet ride that's rare in a ski this light. We also love how easily the tails release, which makes quick pivots in bumps and tight trees feel almost automatic.
Who it's for:
Advancing intermediate and advanced skiers who spend their days hunting soft snow, trees, and bumps will feel right at home on the Scope 99. It suits playful skiers who like to slash, butter, and pop off side hits as much as they like to carve, and the line's new unisex size run covers lighter skiers and taller ones alike. East Coast skiers chasing powder days, spring corn, and glade laps can treat it as a genuine daily driver.
Highlights:
The big story for 2027 is what's going on inside. Liberty's Recoil Core Carbon has always blended poplar, a phenolic composite, S-glass, and carbon fiber, and this season full-length bamboo stringers join the mix to boost rebound and dampen vibration. Bamboo is a material Liberty pioneered in skis, and it gives the Scope 99 a springy, energetic feel through the end of each turn without piling on weight. A phenolic plate underfoot stiffens the ski torsionally and gives your binding screws something solid to bite into. The shape measures 130/99/120 with a 19.5 meter radius at the 180cm length, and pairing it with a rocker, camber, rocker profile and true twin tips means the ski planes up quickly in soft snow and is happy to ride switch or land backwards when the moment calls for it. It's a sandwich build with ABS sidewalls, finished with a fast IS7500 sintered race base and Liberty's new ICP 8210 co-extruded topsheet, a bi-layer textured material designed to keep looking good season after season. Liberty also builds it with FSC-certified wood and a bio-based epoxy, so it's a ski you can feel good about owning.
Things to consider:
The Scope 99 leans playful, so it doesn't deliver the ironclad grip of a stiffer, metal-laminated ski on icy or boilerplate mornings. Opening it up at high speed on firm snow takes good balance, and skiers who prioritize hardpack carving should look at the titanal-equipped Radian 100 in Liberty's line. If you want something lighter and more park-friendly, the Scope 94 is worth a look, while the Scope 104 adds width and stability for bigger-mountain days.
Fit & sizing considerations:
Standard sizing applies to the Scope 99, which now runs from 152 to 186cm. Skiers who spend a lot of time switch or in the park sometimes bump up a length, since the twin tips and rocker shorten the effective edge, while skiers who live in tight trees and bumps can drop a size for quicker pivots.
