Ski Size

The Armada Locator 104 is an everyday backcountry freeride ski built to handle whatever the forecast brings. A lightweight karuba wood core with carbon reinforcement keeps it efficient on the skin track, while a waist just past the hundred-millimeter mark and long, low freeride rocker give it real float and control on the way down. It's a touring ski that's light enough for long days uphill without giving up the confidence skiers want on the descent.

Why we like it:

Armada didn't skimp on the downhill side: a titanal binding dampener underfoot calms vibration without loading the ski with weight. The AR Bat Tail is a smart touring detail too, a tail clip design that holds skin clips securely and keeps them centered.

Who it's for:

Backcountry skiers at the advanced and expert level who tour regularly will get the most from this ski, especially those who want one ski for everything from midwinter powder to spring corn. It's also a strong pick for resort skiers building a dedicated touring setup who still want something that skis like a freeride ski on the way down.

Highlights:

At 178 cm, the Locator 104 weighs just 1425 g, and that's the number that matters most on a long skin. The lightness comes from a Caruba wood core, carbon reinforcement and a Lightweight Edge, with AR75 sidewalls adding durability. A Ti Binding Dampener sits underfoot to reduce chatter and give the binding a solid platform. Freeride Rocker stretches long and low into the tip and tail for planing in soft snow, while camber underfoot keeps the ski predictable on firm spring snow. The 178 cm measures 131 mm at the tip, 104 mm underfoot and 122 mm at the tail with a 22 m radius. The AR Bat Tail Self Center Tail Clip design keeps skins in place, and Armada makes a pre-cut Locator 104 skin to match.

Things to consider:

Light touring skis trade some damping for uphill efficiency, so the Locator 104 won't feel as planted as a heavier resort freeride ski on firm, chopped-up snow at high speed. Skiers who want a wider, more powder-focused touring ski can step up to the Locator 112, while the Locator 96 is the lighter choice for steeper, firmer objectives.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Pick your usual freeride length. The long, low rocker shortens the effective edge a little, so stronger skiers can size up for more stability on the descent, while skiers who prioritize kick turns and tight couloirs may prefer to drop a length.
