Washing jackets in household detergents leaves a hydrophilic residue, what that attracts moisture instead of repelling it, leading to fabric 'wetting out' in wet or damp conditions, just what you don’t want your jacket doing. Regular cleaning will enhance the performance of your gear. With regular cleaning, you should be able to clean your gear 5-6 times with Nikwax Tech Wash before it requires re-waterproofing. When waterproof clothing or gear new cleaning with -will not only remove dirt, sweat and oils that compromise performance but also revitalize the DWR.
