Salomon Genesis MID GTX Women's Hiking Shoes

Hikers who'd rather move quickly than plod along will like where the Salomon Genesis Mid GORE-TEX Women's Hiking Shoe is aimed. This waterproof, mid-height hiker takes cues from a trail running shoe, with deep cushioning, a supportive chassis, and fast one-pull laces. Expect a nimble, lighter-on-your-feet ride over long miles, plus confident footing when the trail crosses roots, rock, and wet ground.

Why we like it:

The cushioning is the surprise here. It's rated ultra plush, so the last few miles back to the car feel a lot kinder than they do in a stiffer hiker.

Features and Functions:

Start with the upper: a synthetic and textile build with a textile lining, a gusseted tongue to keep grit out, and a protective toecap for rocky trails, all sealed by a GORE-TEX membrane so puddles and wet grass don't soak through. Below that, the optiFOAM midsole uses lightweight EVA foam for an ultra plush ride, with a 38.5mm heel and 30.5mm forefoot stack for an 8mm drop. Salomon's activeCHASSIS sits between the foam and the foot to add guidance and keep the shoe agile on uneven ground, and an All-Terrain contaGRIP rubber outsole covers the mix of surfaces on a typical day hike. The molded OrthoLite sockliner adds comfort, quickLACE tightens the fit with one pull, and the women's version comes in around 346 grams per shoe.

Bottom Line:

Pick the Genesis Mid if your hiking leans toward long, fast days and you want trail-runner comfort with mid-height coverage and dependable waterproofing. It's a great fit for big day hikes and shoulder-season trails that stay wet well into summer.
